Floral Wonders of Cameron Highlands

Being in the highlands, the cool climate does justice to the flowers and vegetables that are grown in Cameron Highlands. At the grounds of the hotel we stayed and even along roadside, they grow very well and when they are in full bloom, they brighten up the highlands in rich colours.

Made a short weekend getaway trip to Cameron Highlands just before the Deepavali holiday. Heard and seen a lot about the beautiful scenery of Boh Tea Plantation at Sg. Palas and decided to capture a few shots there. It's usually misty at the break of dawn, and as the rising sun peeps through the clouds, the warm rays flood the rows of tea leaves terraces.

Wow! Your photos are really stunning. Mon 13-Feb-2006 18:20

A Flower that's full of Passion

Passiflora, or better known as Passion Flower, is one pretty exotic bloom. This plant is a very clever creeper and has now covered half of my brick wall in my front yard. When in full bloom, it emits a rather strong, sweet fragrance. So far, none of them has turned into a passion fruit.

It's been raining every day, and the plants in our front yard seem to be sprouting new leaves and blooming flowers. Decided to capture their splendour this morning...

The Kuala Lumpur Islamic Arts Museum is a world-class museum and definitely worth a visit. The architecture in itself is rich in Islamic patterns and designs. Different sections of the museum are housed under different domes. If you look up, these are some of the domes you will find. Being our first time inside this museum, we found the architecture really amazing.

Hawk or Eagle?

"Now, where shall I hide?"
Gotcha!
Both. This is the Changeable Hawk-Eagle, also taken at the KL Bird Park. It was shying away from my camera, trying to find refuge amongst the bushy foliage nearby when I was taking this shot.

The Brahminy Kite

oooh... so fierce!
don't mess with me!
how's my bald eagle stance?
This is such a magnificent bird, especially when it's soaring through the air in search of prey out at sea. I did not have the luxury of shooting it in flight at the KL Bird Park, but I was lucky it was willing to pose for my camera.

Lately, I have been requested to showcase some of the birds I shot at the KL Bird Park. One of my personal favourites is the Mandarin Duck. Its bright and brilliant feathers is what makes this bird so beautiful. I simply could not resist taking pictures of the male - he's just so photogenic!

The Mandarin Ducks are awesome! Great photos here I've tried capturing some at the Singapore Bird Park, unfortunately it was unsuccessful. I'm really impress with the photos you've got here. Wed 7-Dec-2005 01:55

For the very first time, Zoo Negara in Kuala Lumpur is organizing a Digital Photo Contest based on the above theme. It aims to highlight the beauty, diversity and uniqueness of the wilderness as well as communicate the issues and threats surrounding its existence. This contest is also a great way to express the necessity to preserve the environment and share the beauty of wildlife in tis natural habitat with others. Photos must be taken between 10am and 2pm today. That in itself posed a challenge as our luck depended very much on the antics of the animals during these 4 hours. Anyway, to win or not to win, we entered just for the fun of it and also to help in the conservation of Zoo Negara.

Yunnan Cuisine

Just came back from a holiday trip to Kunming, a bustling city located in Southern China. During the 8 days of a somewhat brief tour of the Yunnan Province, we had the opportunity to savour some delectable dishes. Most of them were drenched in oil, and the taste is slightly salty, spiced with pepper or chilli. Come mealtimes, there were at least 10 different kinds of dishes being served. Vegetables were in abundance, and the meats were... minced, or full of fats, skin or bones. Nevertheless, it was certainly an interesting gastronomical adventure for my tastebuds.
