Thaipusam in 2005

We went back to the same place again - Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, with the aim of shooting better shots than last year's...

These were also shot on Thaipusam Day last year, on Fuji NPS 160 and Provia 400. It can be quite frightening watching the devotees being in a trance. It is also a challenge trying to shoot them in action from a safe distance while staying out of their path as they trudge along barefooted.

Last year was our first attempt at shooting the Thaipusam kavadi bearers as they made their way towards Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur. These were shot on Fuji Neopan 400 and scanned on a Nikon CoolScan V.

The thing about being on tour is keeping to our time schedule. This means we only had an hour to discover Everland. That's not much considering the fact that Festival World is only a small section of what Everland has to offer. These were shot as we were making our way towards the exit. Well, I suppose we'll just have to come back again for more next time!

T'was the day before Christmas... what better way to enjoy it than to experience the fun and adventure at Everland Theme Park located at Yongin, Gyeonggi in South Korea. Here are a few of the thrilling rides that can be found in Festival World. Those with a weak heart should think twice before embarking on these rides!

It's almost Christmas and it just so happens that we went for an impromptu short vacation in Seoul, South Korea. It's winter, temperature's below freezing (-7 degrees Celsius at night and 1 degree Celsius in the daytime), but apparently, there wasn't a single snowflake the whole time we were there. We were looking forward to experiencing a white Christmas, however, these were the shots we took at the Gyeongbok Palace grounds.

Port Dickson town
|
|
It's the Hari Raya holidays and we took a short drive to Port Dickson (PD), a seaside town about 1.5 hours' drive from Kuala Lumpur. Around this time of the year, it rains almost every day, especially in the afternoons as it's the monsoon season but miraculously, during our 2 days' stay in PD, it was hot and sunny with not a single raindrop in sight.
Some parts of PD have been developed extensively, but there are still some parts left untouched. Hmm... better capture them on camera before they disappear completely.
We also stopped by a Chinese temple. Not sure what it's called. It's situated on top of a hill with a little mini "Great Wall of China" built around it.

This year, we didn't go on a shooting spree for the Festival of Lights. These were shot last year at the Sri Sithivinayagar Alayam Indian temple located along Jalan Selangor in Petaling Jaya. My main purpose for shooting was to enter MPPJ's "Colours of PJ" photo competition. As such, I am unable to show all the shots - some of the better ones have been submitted for the competition (my entries were shortlisted). Anyway, I'm happy to say that I managed to win a Consolation Prize!

Despite what its name suggests, there are hardly any crabs around. Pulau Ketam is basically a fishing village community built on stilts. Most of them are wooden, but over the years, there are some now in concrete. The roads are narrow, more like lanes, wide enough only for 2 bicycles to pass through. There are no cars, the transportation is by foot, bicycle, motorised bicycle or motorbike. Sanitary and waste disposal is not very efficient, as can be observed during low tide.
This is my second time here, and my husband's first. The only way to get there is by ferry. An air-conditioned ride takes about 30 minutes and costs RM5.50 one way. My last trip was at least 10 years ago, the only change I see is that there are more concrete buildings now than before. This time, we went with a group of PSPJ (Petaling Jaya Photographers' Society) members on Sunday, 12 September 2004.
