Colours of Bon Odori 2004

wonder what they're gossiping about?
hey... where did they get those balloons!
they seem to be having fun here
View all 10 photos...
This year, the Bon Odori Festival was held at the Matsushita Sports Complex in Shah Alam, Selangor, sometime mid-July. There were thousands of people, plenty of cars (parking can be quite a distance away if you're not early), plenty of Japanese food and drinks, lots of colour, noise and dancing. Overall, it's a fun atmosphere to be in. The event usually kicks off around 5 - 6pm.

i never knew you had boon odori festival in malaysia, great shots , you can see mine from back in august at http://mjones.fotopages.com/?entry=188831

On 18th of July 2004, we decided to photograph "Beautiful Swamp" Wetlands in Dengkil, Selangor with a bunch of photog members from PhotoMalaysia. It was hot and sunny all day, wonderful for taking pictures. The whole place is huge, so it makes sense to rent a mountain bike to explore the area. And bring lots of drinking water, apply sunscreen lotion and wear a big hat!

This collection featured here is only Part One in this series.

Mmmmm.....This is how color looks like??? Great.. Sat 18-Dec-2004 09:01

The Climb (Half-way) Up Mount Ophir

...or better known as the legendary Gunung Ledang to Malaysians.

Climbing mountains is definitely not our forte, but we conquered this one halfway up to Checkpoint 5 and camped there one night, all for the sake of entering a photo contest sponsored by Fujifilm sometime in February 2004. It was a good though tiring experience having to first of all lug our camping equipment PLUS photography gear, and secondly, having to trek thru rough terrain of all kinds - rocks, branches, tree roots and water.

Anyway, we made it there and back, safe and sound together with dehydration, exhaustion and aching muscles.

Butterfly Park, KL

Being a public holiday for folks working in Selangor, my husband took the opportunity to finish snapping his roll of Kodak Supra 400 (colour negative film) with a very challenging subject - butterflies. They flit, they flutter, they shy away from you in all directions and are very unpredictable creatures. Anyhow, God made them colourful, beautiful and admirable, which is worth every effort in making sure they stay within your camera's viewfinder even after you've released the shutter. All shot on Tamron 180mm macro lens.

nice!
were you using a tripod for the butterfly shots?

Popularly known by the Chinese community as "Kow Wong Yeh", this festival was celebrated recently in October (it begins on the first day of the 9th lunar month and lasts for 9 days). These photos were all taken by my husband on Kodak Supra 400 and Kodak Gold 100 colour negative film. This is his first time shooting this event which took place at one of the oldest temples in Ampang New Village, Kuala Lumpur - the 140-year-old Nine Emperors Temple.

Photographing flowers is one thing, photographing animals can be rather challenging. These are a few shots my husband and I took at Zoo Negara before it started to rain, forcing us to pack up and call it a day. We plan to go again to capture more in the near future.

Aha! Yer own fotopage as well!

Where's lah yer Nine Emperor God pic? Love to see those...

Of Lilies and other flowers

Living in a tropical country means we're blessed with plenty of sunshine and rain all year round, resulting in beautiful blooms throughout the year. I do not know the names of all these flowers, but I do know that I simply can't resist capturing their beauty on lens.

Thank you, Matt! Only the pink lotus is taken with macro lens. The purple water lily, orchids and extreme close-up was using Kenko extension tubes attached to Minolta zoom lens. The rest taken with zoom lens. I'm based somewhere in Klang Valley Thu 28-Oct-2004 02:25

A must-visit tourist destination for many foreigners to Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur City Centre has probably been shot many, many times by amateur and professional photographers alike... especially with Petronas Twin Towers being the tallest building in the world.
